Kids ‘N Comedy

Summer is nice and everything, but let’s face it, it’s too hot.
And I don’t like being outside. Do you? I mean, you get all sweaty. And people smell bad. That’s why you should come spend your Summer with us! (Don’t worry. We have like, 8 gigantic air conditioners.)

Are you creative (weird), intelligent (nerd), and full of interesting opinions (extremely unbalanced)? Then we want you (to take a stand-up comedy class with us)!

Ever suspect you might be better at making fun of sports than actually playing them? Us too. That's why we don't play any sports at Kids 'N Comedy. Instead we write jokes, riff on topics, and try to make each other laugh. If you want to spend your Saturdays or Sundays throwing things through hoops, and falling down a lot, we're not going to stop you. We might even wave. But, if you'd rather spend them writing your own stand-up comedy routine and performing it onstage at the famous Gotham Comedy Club, then we're saving you a seat. Hurry up and get over here already. Geez.

The Kids ’N Comedy workshops are offered to students who have excelled in the regular stand up program. The workshops are used to fine-tune the comedian’s “pro show set.” With more stage time, more notes, and more one-on-one engagement, workshops are a chance to go deeper into the comedian’s material. Along with exploring comedic performance and writing, the comedians work on their assigned topical material for that particular month.

Advanced Writer Workshops

The hardest part of stand-up comedy is staying fresh. Overusing old material is an easy trap to fall into (especially if it works), but when your material stops being exciting to you, it stops being exciting to an audience, and that isn’t fun for anybody. We know first-hand that sometimes it’s hard to find time to sit down and be hilarious. That’s why we’re offering a special Sunday afternoon writing workshop to help you learn how to generate new material on the fly, off the cuff, and on just about any topic you can imagine. With specially designed group exercises and writing games, you’ll pair up, group off, and help each other find new ways to look at old jokes, as well as learning how to put your training into practice at home.

Try out your material in front of your peers as well as our comedians and comedy writer.

For those who have attended the advance writers workshop: Please note that the workshop is something worth repeating as we will be doing new exercises and bringing in successful comedy writer guests.

Learn how to...

Come up with new jokes on the fly!

Write late-night jokes as a mock writer’s room!

For advance comedy students only.

Price is $85 for 2 hours if there are 6 or less and class size is limited to 10. If there are more than 6 comics it will be a 3-hour class. Lunch is included.

When: Sundays 1:00 - 4:00 PM

March 8, 2020

April 5, 2020 (change of date to April 19)
